The AKH Foundation recognizes the importance of education. Because of the generosity of several local residents, eight separate scholarship programs are offered by the AKH Foundation.

Nursing Scholarships

  • The Helen Rakowski Bole Nursing Scholarship Program awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to female students entering their first year of RN or BSN programs. 
 
  • The Adolph Rzotkewicz Nursing Scholarship Program awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to male or female students entering their first year of RN or BSN programs.

Literary Scholarship

  • The Helen Rakowski Bole Literary Scholarship Program is offered to seniors at Highlands High School, with preference to females, intent on majoring in English Literature, English Education, Communication, Library Science, or related fields of study.  The program was made possible through the generosity of Ms. Bonnie Orkow, daughter of the late Helen Rakowski Bole, a 1930 graduate of Har-Brack High School.  Awards are up to $2,000 per year, for each of the two-years a candidate is eligible.

2010 Literary Scholarship Recipient:

Julianne Victain, Highlands H.S.

Robert & Jean Walsh Scholarship Program

  • The Robert & Jean Walsh Scholarship Program will provide a scholarship award to a student accepted to an accredited four-year college in a science or technology major, and  to another student accepted to an accredited four-year college in a humanities major. The awards will be $3,000 per student, per year, for up to two years. Because of restrictions established by the donors, eligible students must be graduating from either Highlands High School or St. Joseph High School, Natrona Heights, PA.

VNA Scholarship

  • The Helen Rakowski Bole Outstanding Nurse Award is made annually by the Butler County Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) and funded by the AKH Foundation through a grant from Bonnie Orkow.

HESA Scholarship

  • The Highlands Emergency Services Alliance, Junior Firefighter Scholarship Program will provide a scholarship award to a Highlands High School graduate of the HESA program.  The scholarship program was made possible through a grant from the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation's Community Challenge Grant Program.  The Highlands Emergency Services Alliance successfully achieved the goal of 500 attendees at the Community Safety Fair this past September qualifying them for the grant.

Samuel L. Huey Girls Basketball Scholarship

  • The Samuel L. Huey Girls Basketball Scholarship is made annually to outstanding senior girls basketball players in the Alle-Kiski Valley.  The following are the 2010 recipients: Britanie Cassoni, Highlands; Morgan Sharick, Burrell; Haley Hutterer, Knoch; Erica Carnahan, Freeport; Nicole Holtz, Deer Lakes; Jacqi Diez, St. Joseph's; Britta Emberg, Kittanning; Kim Tyborowski, Riverview; Hannah Shaffer, Apollo-Ridge; Alyssa Eckman, Apollo-Ridge; Aubree Held, Apollo-Ridge
