the Southeast Butler County Community Challenge!
The
Allegheny Health Foundation launched its Southeast Butler County Community
Challenge Grant Program in conjunction with the newly-formed Southeast
Butler County Community Alliance. The AKH Foundation and SBCC Alliance
kickoff event took place on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Mulone
Theatres’ South Pike Cinemas on Route 356 in Sarver.
The event was designed to be a preview of the topics that will be
discussed in the coming months. Presenters included Butler County
District Attorney Randa Clark; Butler County Detective Patrick Cannon;
Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Anthony Aulicino; Federal Bureau
of Investigation Special Agent Denise Holtz; and others. The preview
covered topics on drug abuse, alcohol dangers, and internet predators.
Following the one-hour preview, all attendees were invited to stay
for the screening of a first-run movie, courtesy of the AKH Foundation.
The
Kickoff Event was the initial phase of the Southeast Butler County
Community Challenge. Between March and June, a series of two-hour
presentations were held at various locations throughout Southeast
Butler County. The SBCC Alliance was successful in generating a collective
attendance of over 500 people at these programs, it will receive a
$25,000 grant from the AKH Foundation. The grant monies will be used
for future awareness and similar programs on any aspect of health
& wellness in Southeast Butler County.
The Challenge Doesn't Stop Here!
The
Southeast Butler County Community Alliance is now actively meeting
to determine the ongoing community awareness needs of the region.
This group is now responsible for maximizing the use of the $25,000
grant that was made available to the by the AKHF. The future
